It's such a good feeling to have to know that I still love Valia Lind's writing as much as I did the first time I read her earlier works.

Why not 5? Im a bit conflicted on her superpowers yet as well as I found sometimes she is a bit too stubborn but positive that she learns from her mistake. Im absolutely gonna continue!I was ready for a quiet and normal senior year. But then, I read something I wasn’t supposed to and now every illusion I had about my magic is shattered.

There is so much going on with Maddie, her magic, the spell gone wrong and what is going to happen between her and Aiden. The author keeps you engaged and sets a great pace of the book. There is something for everyone in this series, I am looking to reading book 2 I don’t know what to make of Derek. He doesn’t talk much and is just McBroody really. I need a little more of him to make up my mind I wanted to like him but the book ended to soon to fully redeem my trust It's like she has to prove she's the top dog (haha) no matter what, and that can get annoying. I do like her, not as much as I liked Leah in the prequel, but a decent amount.Wolves are disappearing, returning as rabid monsters. For reasons Rylan will not share, I am the only one who can help. Like I said, cool setup. Maybe not a complete winner, but I still found it enjoyable and might consider reading the next book to see what happens next for the characters with all those twists toward the latter portion of the story.

The story begins in a way that actually felt more new adult than YA - Avery is out in town reclaiming goods from a troll she has a knife-point. The way she moves about the city made her feel distinctly older and more mature than your typical YA opening, which was refreshing. Trinity is badass. She is awesome and can hold herselt in a fight. She is stubborn and very unapologetic - specially when it comes to annoy and challenge Rylan, her former bff. Maddie is a Hawthorne sister and is known for performing a spell against the Ancients. If the stares of her peers at Thunderbird Academy wasn't bad enough, her dad is missing as well and Maddie will do anything to find him. However, her friends Liam and Kate haven't returned to the school because of the threat of the Ancients, leaving her alone.
