Obviously, the MC2 impressed the hell out of me. It offers excellent control, a very comfortable control, a great set of features, and fair value. The suction cup mounting solution is a little wonky, but the rubber extenders for lap use make up for this deficiency. There might be some nice products coming down the line, but they'll have to really hit the mark to beat out the MC2. Kudos to Mad Catz for getting this one almost entirely right.

I have been playing original Xbox racing games lately and have decided I want to be able to use a wheel. However, I don't really want to dig up a wheel for the console, as my research has not brought forth any models of really exceptional quality, and furthermore, I already have a nice wheel in the form of the logitech G29.Don't forget about the pedals. Most driving wheel bundles will include a pedal box with at least accelerator and brake pedals, while really good wheels will include a clutch pedal. (Though, only a handful of racing games actually support clutch shifting.) You'll want a nice, heavy pedal box with strong build quality that won't slide around or break while the pedals are being stomped. If money isn’t an issue, treat yourself to a complete Fanatec setup. Just be prepared for some setup work. But since this is Ars Technica and you are reading us, you’re probably a level 50 techie, so that won’t be a problem. The wheel will also work with the PS3 and PS4 and the Xbox One, PC, and the Xbox 360. Final thoughts

The best steering wheel for Xbox overall, in our opinion, is the Logitech G923 steering wheel and pedals. This steering wheels caters towards both hardcore racing gamers and people who are just getting started. The best budget steering wheel for Xbox, on the other hand, is the Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Spider. This offers a great set of features and decent control for a much lower price point compared to the other Xbox steering wheels on offer. A cheaper Logitech option can be the Logitech G920 which is the best mid-range Xbox steering wheel, and one of the best Xbox One accessories on the market. It is a great quality wheel for the price and feels great to drive with, one downside however can be that the pedals feel somewhat stiff to begin with. Is Thrustmaster or Logitech better? The only performance problem I encountered was that the Xbox mysteriously stopped recognizing the wheel during game play a few times. This occurred about four times over eight hours - not bad, but enough to be mildly annoying.

The Logitech has better pedals and takes up less space in the gym. It also does not appear to be a 7/8th scale Ferrari 458 wheel, which will be necessary for some people. Both will work with PCs and Xbox Ones, but neither (we believe) will work with a PS4.
